Taro Yamada (山田太郎 Yamada Tarō), nicknamed Senpai by his rivals and Yandere-chan, is one of the most important characters in Yandere Simulator, as he is Yandere-chan's obsession and love.

He is also the main protagonist of Yandere no Sutoka.

During the game, if Yandere-chan gets too close to him, her heart will audibly begin to beat and the screen will turn pink. Yandere-chan will drop everything she was holding and hold her hands close to her chest, unable to run or do anything, and will act very strange and shy.

If Yandere-chan is in his field of vision while she is near him, she will start to scare him, causing the player to lose the game. If she stays there too long, Taro will freak out and the player will lose. If he sees her killing, with her uniform stained with blood, holding a gun, dragging a corpse, taking Panty Shots, or laughing wickedly in front of him, he will get angry and as a result he will have a Broken Heart.

Tarō Yamada is the Japanese equivalent of "John Doe" in English, or "Juan Pérez" and "Fulano" in Spanish. These are aliases that refer to a hypothetical person or a person whose real identity is unknown.

The Japanese word "senpai" refers to someone who has seniority over someone else. For example, if you are a first-year student, all second- and third-year students are your "senpai." If you start a new job, any coworker who has worked there longer than you is your "senpai."

In Yandere Simulator, the title "Senpai" is given to the young man (or woman) with whom the protagonist has a crush. The player is given the option to choose the Senpai's gender at the beginning of the game; it could be "Senpai-kun" or "Senpai-chan." If Senpai is a man, his name is Taro Yamada, and if she is a woman, her name is Taeko Yamada.

Throughout the school year, ten different girls will fall in love with Senpai. There's a myth at school that if a girl confesses her love to a boy under the cherry tree behind the school on a Friday, they'll love each other forever. All the girls who fall in love with Senpai plan to confess at 6:00 PM on Friday. If anyone wants to keep Senpai completely to themselves, they have until 6:00 PM on Friday to eliminate the competition.
